Pumpkin ‘Crown of Thorns’ is an annual plant that produces shoots that trail or recline; in the summer, this variety develops fruit that grow several centimetres in diameter, in a shape that resembles a crown of thorns. The fruit should be harvested before the first frosts - this is when they are in peak of their ornamental value and can be used indoors. Pumpkin ‘Crown of Thorns’ is recommended for decorating arbours, fences or walls. It can also be grown as a cover plant.
Growing: sow the seeds directly into the soil in early May; sow 2 to 3 seeds in each position in 50-80cm spacings. The seeds germinate in 10 to 14 days. The plants grow best in fairly moist fertile soils in sunny positions.
