White cabbage "Roem van Enhuizen 2" (Brassica oleracea convar. capitata var. alba) is a medium early variety, whose heads mature within 100 - 120 days after planting the seedlings. This variety is recommended for direct consumption and pickling. It produces compact, round heads consisting of dark green leaves. Cabbage belongs to the most consumed vegetables in Central Europe. It is served in many dishes as an important source of vitamin C, particularly in the winter season. It also constitutes rich source of calcium, iron and phosphorus. The glucosinolates this plant contains consist of sulphur and show antibacterial properties. Regular consumption of cabbage is recommended for people with stomach ulcers, anemia and overweight.
White head cabbage "Roem van Enkhuizen 2" is grown from seedlings. Seeds are sown to a seed bed in March and April. As soon as the plants have developed 3-4 true leaves they are transplanted to the permanent site, what usually occurs end of April / beginning of May. "Roem vn Enkhuizen 2" cabbage heads should be harvested from July to August. Cabbage requires a sunny site with moist, sandy-clay, non-acidic soil to yield rich crops.
