"Mars" red head cabbage (Brassica oleracea convar. capitata var. rubra) develops round, compact heads that do not break and consist of pale crimson leaves. Cabbage is a very nutritional vegetable rich in vitamins A, C, B1 and B2, as well as calcium. Cabbage juice shows medicinal and anti-cancer effects. It cleans blood and skin, detoxifies liver and soothes nerves. Vitamin K that cabbage contains beneficially affects functioning of the brain, improving the focus. Red head cabbage is also an anti-oxidant thanks to the anthocyanin content. "Mars" cabbage is recommended for direct consumption in salads and soups and for pickling. It may also be stored short term.
"Mars" cabbage would grow from direct sow to the permanent site. Seeds are sown from March to April. In case of unfavourable weather conditions you may also prepare seedlings under covers or at home and transplant them after hardening to the field in May - June. Grow the plants in 50 x 50 cm spacings. Harvest the properly developed heads from July to October. The plants require sunny sites and heavy, fertile, sufficiently moist soils that contain nutrients (particularly calcium), humus and are, preferably, enriched with compost or manure.
One package contains 2 g of the "Mars" red head cabbage seeds, as well as the sow-by date and growing instructions.
