Asparagus Fern, sometimes called Sprenger Asparagus, is a perennial decorative plant which is most frequently cultivated in pots. The main decorative function of this variety is born by its branches, which take a form of flat needles. Asparagus fern is an fine room decoration and is recognised as an outstanding variety for a cut flower; it looks exceptional as a part of a bouquet.
Growing: prior to sowing, it is recommended to soak the seeds in lukewarm water for two days. Sow the seeds from January and June in containers with light soil; cover the seeds with half a centimetre worth of soil. The seeds germinate in 4 to 6 weeks. Prick the young seedlings out in 3x3cm spacings. After 2 to 3 months, transplant the plants into pots with a diameter of 7 to 8 centimetres. Grow the plants in a sunny position with fertile soil and feed them fairly frequently.
