California poppy "Ballerina" (Eschscholtzia californica), offered here in a variety mix, withstands even spartan condition, although it looks tender and fragile. It grows approximately 30 cm tall and 20 cm wide. It sprouts erect, branched stems, covered with green, tiny, feathery leaves on tops of which beautiful, multicoloured blooms with thin, silky petals develop. The variety mix offered in our store produces extra large blooms (up to 7 cm in diameter) that take on creamy-white, pink, yellow, orange and red colour.

Cultivation requirements of the enchanting California poppy are minimal. This undemanding annual plant thrives on dry and poor soils that are properly drained and permeable. Excess amount of nutrients and water results in intensive growth of stems and leaves at the expense of blooms. You should plant California poppies on sunny sites, because thes plants close their blooms in the shade. Seeds of the California poppy are sown in the spring directly to permanent site. Its subtle blooms can be admired from June to August on borders, edgings and in rock gardens. They also fit into vases.
