Bicolour caladium, also called elephant ear, "Fannie munson" (Caladium bicolor) is a perennial plant that originates from tropical regions of South America. In Central European climate conditions it is usually grown as pot plant at home. These plants grow 40 cm high. Large, heart-shaped, elongated leaves grow from the tubers. This foliage constitutes the ornamental value this plant has to offer. Leaves of the "Fannie munson" variety take on purple colour with a subtle, narrow green edging. These plants may be used as interior decoration, grown in greenhouses or terrariums.

Plant caladium tubers into pots filled with universal garden soil at the end of winter. A humous soil with high water capacity and proper drainage would suit this purpose best. Place the plants in a bright spot, even though they also handle partial shade well, the colouring of the foliage gets much brighter in the sun. Caladiums enter dormancy stage in autumn. As soon as the leaves dry out, dig out the tubers and store over the winter in a warm, airy and moist place.
