Flambo bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) is a very interesting French bean cultivar with speckled pods. This dwarf cultivar developing a compact habit belongs to early varieties. Pods of this variety may be eaten cooked the same way as pods of other French bean varieties, but you may also grow it for dried seeds. The pods themselves are greenish-yellow and have crimson speckles. White seeds are also dotted. Cooked bicolour "Flambo" bean pods are a great addition to many dishes. You may store mature, dried seeds and use them in the kitchen at your discretion.

Sow French bean seeds directly onto the field from May to July. Sow the seeds into thoroughly weeded and aerated soil. We recommend to sow them in batches every 2 - 3 weeks, so they ripen gradually from July to September. Place the seeds in holes 5 cm apart in rows 50 cm apart. This low growing variety does not require staking. Provide it with sunny and wind-sheltered spot in the garden. You will get the richest harvest from cultures led on fertile, humous, moderately moist yet permeable soil.
