The Harnas winter garlic (Allium sativum) belongs to the most commonly cultivated garlic varieties. This early harvested variety is intended for planting in autumn. Its plants develop stiff, erect, bright green leaves covered with distinct waxy coating. The Harnas garlic shoots a medium long or tall flower stalk atop of which bulbils develop. The large number of cloves that are covered with purple skin distinguishes it from other garlics. One bulb may contain from 8 to 12 cloves. A single bulb usually weighs 60 to 60 grams and is covered with greyish skin. The characteristic, strong flavour makes the Harnas garlic a spice commonly used in cooking and preserve making. The high content of active compounds make it a popular raw material in the pharmaceutical industry.

The garlic variety presented here grows very well in Central European climate conditions. It yields exceptionally rich crops when the summers are warm and sufficiently rainy. We recommend to cultivate this particular variety on sandy-loam, permeable and sufficiently moist soil. Plant the Harnas garlic cloves in autumn, the harvest takes place at the end of June.

The packages offered in our store contain 60 Zwiebel (3,6 - 5,0 kg) of the Harnas wintering garlic bulbs sized about 4 cm.
