Microgreens - Dwarf nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) - young leaves with exceptional taste belong to a very popular ornamental plant that finds its use in the kitchen, too. Its blooms, leaves and seeds are edible and valued for their medical properties. Microgreens are plants used at the early development stage and contain more valuable substances than the mature plants. They are harvested as soon as they develop cotyledons and the first pair of the true leaves. They delight us with their exceptional nutritional value and excellent taste. Tasty and healthy young nasturtium leaves and shoots contain vitamin C, beta-carotene and lutein. They show anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects. You may use them in salads, sandwiches, with eggs and meat.
Microgreens available in our online store are easy in cultivation and do not require much work. Nasturtium seeds should be sown in a thin layer into a shallow container, box or tray. Water them thoroughly and place in warm, sunny spot on a balcony, terrace or windowsill. The plants only need regular sprinkling with water. They should develop first true leaves after 2 - 3 weeks and that would be the best time to harvest dwarf nasturtium microgreens.
