Mizuna (Brassica rapa var. Japonica), offered here as "Baby Leaf" variety mix, belongs to extremely rich in vitamins and tasty cabbage varieties. This proposed seed mix is recommended for cultivation for young leaves. It does not present any problems in cultivation and grows abundantly. Intensely green, frayed leaves can be harvested already in the third week of cultivation when they reach approximately 8 cm in height. They are tender, soft and slightly savoury in taste, which is why mizuna is often called Japanese mustard. It can be used as herb or addition to salads, sandwiches or as a side dish to meats. Fresh, young leaves contain plenty of vitamin B1, B2, B9 and C, provitamin A, fibre and full set of the most important minerals.
Growing mizuna for young leaves is easy: seeds should be placed in an verticulated, watered vegetable bed or in a container filled with standard garden soil and pressed with a small wooden board. This plant requires regular watering and access to light. Leaves that have grown 5-8 cm long can be cut at the base and eaten raw. They will soon grow again, what makes subsequent harvests possible. Direct sowing should take place in spring and summer, while the sow to pots might occur the whole year long.
Each package contains 0.5 g of mizuna seed mix for growing young leaves. The package information contains a growing guide and the sow-by date.
Approximately 250 seeds (+/- 20%)
